I know I'm guilty of loving Ivan's tech, but it was the Soviet Navy who made the cavitating torpedo work. Theoretically work that is - there's some speculation that the reds lost the Kursk because of a torpedo malfunction.
Still, I just love the idea of something that could cavitate through solid material. That's pretty fucking amazing.
All of which is a long way of saying we are now closer than ever to having a machine we can use to drive to the center of the Earth. Finally!
